Il Parco degli Acquedotti è uno dei polmoni verdi del quadrante sud-est di Roma, vero e proprio crocevia della rete idrica dell’ antica Roma, facente parte del Parco regionale suburbano dell’Appia antica. Si estende per circa 240 ettari tra il quartiere Appio Claudio, via delle Capannelle e la linea ferroviaria Roma-Cassino-Napoli. Rappresenta il residuo di un tratto di Agro Romano che originariamente si estendeva senza interruzioni fino ai Colli Albani, caratterizzato da vegetazione arborea, in particolare pini.

The Park of the Aqueducts is one of the green lungs of the southeastern quadrant of Rome, a true crossroads of the ancient Roman water network. It is part of the Appia Antica Regional Suburban Park. The park spans about 240 hectares between the Appio Claudio neighborhood, Via delle Capannelle, and the Rome-Cassino-Naples railway line. It represents the remnants of a section of the Agro Romano, which originally extended uninterruptedly to the Alban Hills, characterized by tree vegetation, particularly pine trees.

Aqueduct Park

L’ acquedotto Felice dà vita ad un laghetto che prosegue con un corso d’acqua ed una cascata che ricalcano l’ antica marrana dell’ Acqua Mariana. Il nome del parco deriva dagli imponenti resti del sistema di 6 degli 11 acquedotti che resero celebre la città di Roma: Anio Vetus (sotterraneo), Marcia, Tepula, Iulia, Claudio e Anio Novus (sovrapposti). A questi si aggiunge l’ acquedotto Felice (sovrapposto allo Iulia), che fu costruito in epoca rinascimentale dal papato e tutt’ora impiegato per l’ irrigazione. In passato l’area era nota come Roma Vecchia, dal nome dell’omonimo casale ivi presente. Passeggiando per il parco, vi imbatterete in diverse attrazioni di interesse storico: Villa dei Sette Bassi, Villa delle Vignacce, la Tomba dei Cento Scalini, una cisterna con torretta, varie tombe, il fosso dell’Acqua Mariana, il casale di Roma Vecchia e la stazione della Ferrovia.

The Felice Aqueduct creates a small lake, followed by a watercourse and waterfall that trace the path of the ancient *marrana* (water channel) of the Acqua Mariana. The park is named after the impressive remains of 6 of the 11 aqueducts that made ancient Rome famous: Anio Vetus (underground), Marcia, Tepula, Iulia, Claudio, and Anio Novus (superimposed). Additionally, the Felice Aqueduct (built over the Iulia) was constructed during the Renaissance by the papacy and is still used for irrigation. In the past, the area was known as Roma Vecchia, after the homonymous farmhouse located there. While walking through the park, you’ll encounter several historical attractions: Villa dei Sette Bassi, Villa delle Vignacce, the Tomb of the Hundred Steps, a cistern with a turret, various tombs, the Acqua Mariana ditch, the Roma Vecchia farmhouse, and the railway station.
